Previous Cover Girls
Choosing this year’s GLAM Fitness cover girl was far from easy, but when we saw the images of Haley Davis come across the Art Director’s desk, the choice became immediately clear. Haley has seen her online presence grow dramatically in 2014 and this trend shows no signs of slowing up in 2015 while she works toward earning her pro status in the Bikini division. We had an opportunity to work with her this summer in the Nevada desert and came away from that experience convinced that although she speaks GLAM before saying a word, you really want to pull up a chair for the conversation. You might just be surprised at what lies beneath those good looks of this southern belle.
TF: You’ve got quite the following – over 50,000 followers on Facebook and Instagram. At what point did you realize you’d become “insta-famous”?
HD: I don’t know that I have ever really considered myself famous on any level. Although going places and being recognized is very humbling, I think that I am a normal woman who has worked very hard at achieving a body and lifestyle I can use to inspire others with.
TF: In your own words, can you describe the different dynamic that encompasses your fan base? What types of individuals follow you / reach out to you?
HD: I think I have a wide variety of individuals who follow me. A large percent of them would probably be competitors or fans of the fitness industry, but I also have a lot of just plain awesome people. As much as they say that I motivate them, they are really the ones who motivate me. I push myself harder knowing that I have so many people who look up to me and want to see me succeed.
TF: What are some of the goals you’re driving at in 2015?
HD: In 2015 my goals are the same as 2016 and 2017… Wherever life takes me, whatever I am doing, I simply want to be happy.
TF: What’s something that most people would be surprised to learn about you?
HD: I recently started working as a “big sister” with a non profit company called Safe Haven. Safe Haven is a place where women, children and victims of domestic violence go to seek help and shelter. They help women move rebuild their lives and move from fear to freedom. We also work closely with the local homeless shelters providing them food and friendship.
TF: Wow! That’s awesome.
HD: I haven’t told anyone that yet so.. you’re the first!
TF: You’re a spiritual person; how does this factor into your work in the fitness industry?
HD: Going through life as a woman and as a fitness model only comes easy when I have faith. I believe that all of my days have already been written in God’s book. When I am competing and go through a loss or disappointment, I know that the book does not end there. In this industry it is easy to get discouraged and ready to give up when something doesn’t go your way. I know through personal experience when there is no struggle, there is also no strength. I push through not only fitness obstacles, but all obstacles in life by believing there is something greater in his plan for me. I remind myself that the difference between possible and impossible lies in my own determination and faith in the Lord.
TF: You attended your first Olympia this season. Tell us about that.
HD: My first time at the Olympia was unforgettable. I had the opportunity to meet so many inspiring athletes from all over the world. Watching the most dedicated and hard working people in the industry walk across the stage was more than motivating. I also had the opportunity to shoot with Mark Bradfield in the deserts of Las Vegas! By far the coolest photoshoot I have ever done!
TF: Does any one individual in the sport motivate you more than others?
HD: There are so many awesome athletes in the fitness industry it wouldn’t be fair to pick just one. Although many of them motivate me on a daily basis, the most important person I think anyone can have is themselves. I use my own pictures and progress to drive me to become better than I was yesterday.
TF: Let’s get to the 7 random questions!!!
1. Reebok, Nike, or Adidas?
2. What’s scarier, running out of protein powder as you’re making your meals, or watching a spider or mouse scurry across the kitchen floor?
HD: Mouse. Anything that runs fast and is not human freaks me out…
3. What’s your fav board game?
HD: Candy land was a childhood favorite and I still love candy… so, makes sense!
4. Do you have any lucky objects or lucky traditions / superstitions?
HD: Hmmm! Not really any lucky object or superstitions… The power of prayer seems to work pretty well for me when I am in need.
5. Know any foreign languages?
HD: Dirty talk! J/K hahaha
6. Can you drive a tractor?
HD: If you think its sexy (Pretty sure only people who will understand this would be from Texas)
7. You’ve just won the big lottery ticket or inherited a fortune somehow. What’s the first thing you spend on?
HD: I would first have to spend it on my family, whatever they needed. Family comes first in every aspect of life. Without the support of my family I would not be where I am at today.
